About the Exhibition
Jerold Frederick Sowles solo exhibition
American artist, Jerold Frederick Sowles, goes by "Rhinovangogh", in the art community. This as much as anything gives you a sense of what is coming in the art - a humorous look at self and situations, a colorful palette, and admiration for the forerunners.
Jerry is a long-time Las Vegas resident, who has also worked in the Georgetown area of Washington, DC, having many gallery shows there.
Tilting At Holland is a highlight of the portfolio. Inspired by Sowles' friend, artist Walt Evans, the canvas is 5 x 7 feet, and imposing, with Evans riding as a sainted knight on the back of a Rhino, who looks suspiciously at the viewer. Van Gogh looks on in the background, reaching for an illusive coin. Walt Evans as been shown in the Whitney Museum and according to Sowles, was collected by Warhol.
