About the Exhibition
Kathie Nichols solo exhibition
Kathie Nichols digs around Australia's Gold Coast scrap metal yards, shipping containers, and boats in dry dock, to capture her next macro landscape photograph.
Kathie describes what she encounters as "accidental ugliness", and relishes turning heads with her resulting abstract art created through the macro lens.
Her photographs can be mistaken for landscapes or seascapes, even abstract paintings. MELTING SNOW AT DUSK is just such a piece, with its brilliant orange-red vein, cutting horizontally across the picture plane, dividing, as it seems, water from rock. Antarctic Dawn, taken from a metal shipping container, is a fine contemporary abstract, the crackled surface of which captures the viewer's attention.
